Mosul, Iraq, once a thriving city of more than 1.8 million religiously and ethnically diverse inhabitants, was attacked and conquered by ISIS (ISIL or Da’ish) in June 2014. Its successful liberation in July 2017 began the first step in the rebuilding of Iraq’s third largest city.
