Amanda Long

Amanda Long has spent her career committed to the understanding and preservation of cultural heritage, first beginning with several projects at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, while acquiring a degree in International Relations, focusing on the Middle East, from American University’s School of International Service. She then studied at University College London’s Institute of Archaeology, earning a degree in Archaeology and a master’s in Egyptian Archaeology. Amanda’s time at the Smithsonian Institution, from 2014 to 2022, continued to focus on heritage preservation with positions in the Smithsonian’s Cultural Rescue Initiative, Office of Global Affairs, and Museum Conservation Institute where she coordinated the Preventing Trafficking/Protecting Cultural Heritage training. In 2016, Amanda was also awarded a fellowship at the Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum in Hildesheim, Germany.

As the Executive Director, Amanda oversees all of TARII’s activities and developments under the guidance of the Board of Directors and with the support of our directors in Iraq. She has led TARII since 2018.
