The Academic Research Institute in Iraq (TARII) welcomed you to the TARII research conference in 2022. Scholars, colleagues, and funders from across Iraq, the US, and internationally discussed the various research being conducted in and on Iraq – from ancient to modern. Due to health concerns, a virtual conference component was held in October 2021 with recordings available for free. The program featured remarks by TARII’s President, as well as Salwan Sinjaree, Chargé d’Affaires, Dr. Chase Robinson, Director of the National Museum of Asian Art, and Ethan Rosenzweig, Deputy Assistant Secretary (ECA) of the U.S. Department of State. The sessions were: Art and Visual Studies, Politics and Identity, Technology and Communications Research, and Archaeology and Heritage Preservation Projects. There was also a brief provided by the Smithsonian Institution on their work in Iraq. TARII included a collection of research being conducted in/on Iraq, listed in the full program document that can be found at the link below. We enjoyed the opportunity of highlighting the diverse and important work being done.
An evening reception was hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq at the Washington, D.C. Consulate on November 4. During the reception, attendees were able to discuss their work, network, and hear remarks from Mr. Salwan Sinjaree, the Chargé d’Affaires, and Dr. Peter Wien, TARII President. Thank you to everyone who attended and participated, from Iraq, the U.S., and abroad.
